We all need a medicine chest for those unexpected headaches, scrapes, bumps, insect bites and illnesses. Essential oils solve this problem. I cannot tell you how many times I picked up my peppermint oil for digestive issues, skin irritations and sinus congestion for my special needs son. Or how often I use lavender for anxiety, headaches, or skin rashes. While those are two of my favorites, there are also other oils in my pantry (or carry with me) which I keep for some of the other issues listed above.
These are essential ois I would say you shouldn’t do without. They will cover almost anything that comes up!
I use peppermint oil for anything from insect repellent, bug control in my home, spiders, and heartburn. Peppermint can also be used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, or as a stimulant. You may also find peppermint beneficial for treating sinus congestion, bad breath and varicose veins.
We use lavender for nice hot baths, sleep, insect wounds, burns and just calm the house down. I also use it in an essential oils antihistamine. Many use lavender as an analgesic, anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, diuretic, antibiotic, disinfectant, antihistamine, or a sedative.
Tea Tree or Melaluca Oil
When you want to treat a fungal or yeast infection, melaluca is your best bet. Melaluca also works well for mild infections, reducing inflammation and even sunburn. What you may not know about melaluca though, is that it also suffocates ticks on dogs. Add a drop of melaluca before you remove the tick, and it will come right off.
Not only does lemon oil smell great, but it works well as a general cleaner. On a mild level it helps purify and detox. Lemon oil also is one of three essential oils I use in an essential oil antihistamine. It helps reduce fever, constipation, and helps cleanse the lymphatic system. I also like to add a drop of lemon oil in my water to aid in digestion and neutralize stomach acid.
When you need a good oral essential oil, clove oil reduces tooth pain, anesthetizes cuts in the mouth, and helps fight off colds and flu. Many others use it to cure earaches and as a salve to soothe cuts and scrapes.
Oregano oil remains the strongest natural antibiotic on the planet. It is used for fungal and bacterial infections. I save oregano oil for infections, such as yeast infections I cannot seem to eliminate.
Frankincense oil remains the miracle oil. Its resin was offered as a gift to baby Jesus at his birth, and for a reason. Frankincense helps restore and regenerate cell functions. When my thyroid acted up, I used frankincense on my neck and all my crazy symptoms stopped. Some use it as an expectorant, an antifungal and to help reduce cancer cells.
When respiratory distress hits our home, I diffuse eucalyptus. It works well to help clear congestion and also works as a mild antibacterial. Eucalyptus reduces general aches and pains.
Rosemary works well with eucalyptus on congestion, however, it also helps relieve pain. Some use it for things like menstural symptoms, headaches, including migraines and even as a stimulant.
