We love sausage, but we don’t love the processed ingredients that goes into pre-packaged sausage. Jimmy Dean is a delicious brand we all love. The nice thing about a sausage recipe is that you can use ground pork, beef, chicken or turkey. Use whatever meat you have on hand, even game meat, mixed with a few spices. This helps make it taste great!
I use this sausage for spaghetti, pizza, casseroles, one pan meals, or just plain breakfast. There are no artificial ingredients to add more toxins to your body. Plus, you can add a bit of maple syrup to boost the taste!
Personalize your recipe. Around here, in Texas, we use Mexican spices, so my sausage contains a bit of cilantro with plenty of red pepper for an extra kick. Get creative for your family’s favorite tastes.
Jimmy Dean-Style Sausage Recipe
When making my Jimmy Dean-style sausage, I start with 2 pounds of ground meat. Half the recipe if you use one pound. I like to make the two pounds, use half the recipe, then freeze the other half for later use.
What you need
2 pounds of ground pork, beef, chicken or turkey (or any other game meat)
2 tsp of thyme
1 tsp of sea salt
2 tsp of oregano
2 tsp of basil
2 tsp of cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes
1 1/2 tsp of garlic powder (or fresh garlic if you like!)
2 tsp of cilantro
3 TBL of maple syrup
How to make it
Place your meat in a large mixing bowl and add spices. Thoroughly mix with your hands until evenly distributed.
Shape your meat mixture into a large ball, small patties or balls. Fry your meat up, or store it in the freezer for later use, in a pinch. This makes a delicious spaghetti and pizza!
