Cold weather has hit most of us and grabbing a quick bowl of oatmeal is also healthy for your family. Making a single serving of oatmeal is much easier than you think and more nutritious than using those premade packages where you pay more for the convenience than the nutrition.
Frequently, I have grabbed one of those cylinders of oatmeal from the Dollar Tree and made several pick-me-up snacks and breakfasts with quick oats.
First, place one-half cup of quick oats in a bowl. Add 2 TBL of brown sugar or coconut sugar along with 3/4 cup of milk or water, or both. Add a dash of cinnamon if you wish and apples if you want apple cinnamon oatmeal.
Cook on high for one minute 30 seconds in the microwave and stir! Add nuts raisins or stir in applesauce and you have one complete serving of oatmeal for breakfast or snack!
- 1/2 cup of quick oats
- 2 TBL of sugar
- 3/4 cup of milk or water or both
- Dash of cinnamon
- Chopped fruit such as apples, berries or peaches
- Toppings such as nuts or seeds
- Put the ingredients into a microwavable bowl and stir.
- Microwave on high for one minute 30 seconds.
- Add toppings and serve.
