A few years ago, I learned how to make lotion bars. It changed our life, because first of all, it never occurred to me to use coconut oil or olive oil on my skin, or even my children’s skin. Regular lotions are made with parabens, perfumes and all sorts of unnatural ingredients.
In the summer I tend to use straight coconut oil, which soaks into the skin well, but with the decent into cooler temperatures, I decided to try a cream for dry skin.
I started with half coconut oil and half olive oil, but I don’t really think my skin likes the olive oil, even the good stuff. I added thickeners, like shea butter, but the texture just really was not a cream. So, I chose to use only coconut oil, and it turned out just fine!
So, jump in, because it is super easy and yes, I even use it on my special needs son.
Coconut Oil Skin Cream Recipe
1 cup of organic, cold-pressed coconut oil (You can use a mixture of coconut oil and olive oil, or even just olive oil)
1/8 cup of organic beeswax pellets
About 20 drops of essential oils of your choice (We use lavender, grapefruit and frankincense)
That’s it! Place the ingredients together in a microwave proof container, or in a small saucepan. Melt the oil and beeswax together until liquid and then add the essential oils.
Pour into containers (I actually bought these at Dollar Tree for $1 a piece!)
Let them sit overnight to set well, scoop out and slather!
The coconut oil and beeswax are loaded with nutrients for your skin and body, without all the parabens and perfumes, which is so much healthier for everyone!
Blessings to you~Kim
