We had a wet spring this year, so I have seen more more flies, gnats, and mosquitoes than usual. I keep a spray bottle of essential oil insect repellent under my kitchen sink for unwanted critters. Plus, I also keep a bottle of essential oil mosquito repellent in the cabinet for outdoor activities.
I already started a mosquito dunk in our frog pond, and our rain barrel, but of course, that doesn’t stop them all. They just keep trying to breed when all it does is rain and rain.
Pyrethrins in our home and on our skin are dangerous and can cause all sorts of havoc, but using essential oils and other natural ingredients protect us all, especially the children. These essential oils are all nontoxic and safe around kids, especially in the proper amounts, My son runs around with my essential oil insect repellents spraying insects he wants to rid our home of. What mom can worry about that?
Essential Oil Insect Repellents
Natural insect repellent spray
You will need:
1/2 teaspoon of each oil you choose (use the guide below, based on your insect problem)
1/2 cup of water
1/2 cup of vinegar or witch hazel
Spray bottle (Just pick one up at the dollar store)
Add the essential oils to the water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Shake to mix and spray directly on offending insects. For more serious problems, I sprinkle a bottle of essential oil directly on door jams and window sills. Remember, these are repellents not bug killers.
